Brightspace Discover-Tool Primer

Summary

Brightspace Discover aims to enhance the learning experience of both learners and educators by providing easy access to educational resources. This outlines the three roles available within Brightspace Discover ("Instructor", "Teaching Assistant", and "Learner") and the responsibilities associated with each of those roles.

Please note:  A curriculum course cannot be created with Brightspace Discover. 
Discover courses are not used for college credits toward any degree, diploma, or certificate. 

Introduction ("What is Brightspace Discover?")

Brightspace Discover is a portal allowing learners to search for and self-enroll in active non-credit courses. These courses can be browsed and selected based on their assigned roles in Brightspace. Courses available for self-registration are those which fall outside the credit course registration process and typically offer program support / training or bring learners together on a special topic.

Roles and Responsibilities

Instructor

A Discover Instructor is an individual responsible for the operation and configuration of a Discover course. A Discover instructor can:

Teaching Assistant

A Teaching Assistant is an individual responsible for planning and delivering courses to learners in Brightspace. Additional responsibilities can include:

  • Accessing a course.
  • Assessing and grading learners.
  • Measuring and guiding learner performance and engagement.

Teaching assistants may contact the Technology Training Institute for assistance with the latter two responsibilities.

Learner

A Learner is an individual student viewing course content in Brightspace. Learners can:
