Overview
Guides faculty on copying an existing Science Interactive (SI Cloud) integrated Brightspace course for the next term and request ITS assistance to verify/insert the LTI 1.3 credentials (Client ID and Deployment ID) if they do not transfer automatically.
Audience
Course instructors / faculty using Science Interactive (SI Cloud) LTI 1.3 tools in Brightspace.
Task
Copy a previous term's SI-integrated course in Brightspace, check SI Cloud settings for LTI credentials after copy, and submit a request to ITS for credential verification/input if needed, to prepare the course for the upcoming term.
Prerequisites
- Active instructor access to the current/previous Brightspace course containing Science Interactive LTI links.
- Access to the new/blank course shell (or ability to copy into one) for the upcoming term.
- Instructor account in SI Cloud (accessible via launching an SI link in Brightspace).
- Familiarity with Brightspace course copy process
Instructions
- Copy your course in Brightspace:
- Go to course Course Tools > Course Admin > Import/Export/Copy Components.
- Select "Copy Components from another Org Unit."
- Search for and select the previous course/offerings > Add Selected
- Choose to "Copy All Components" or "Select Components."
- If choosing "Select Components", ensure "Content," "External Learning Tool Links," and "Grades" are checked (critical for SI Cloud LTI preservation).
- Confirm and complete the copy.
- Access the new copied course in Brightspace and launch one Science Interactive lesson link (this triggers sync/creation in SI Cloud if needed).
- Log in to SI Cloud via the launched link or your SI instructor portal.
- Navigate to the Settings page in your new SI Cloud course section.
- Check for Client ID and Deployment ID:
- These fields should populate if the LTI configuration transferred fully.
- If blank or incorrect, do not proceed with full setup.
- Proactive recommendation (from SI): Verify these immediately after copy. If missing, request ITS right away.
- Submit a Course Setup Request ticket via the Client Portal, including:
- New course name and term.
- Original/previous course name.
- Confirmation that the copy is complete.
- Specific issue (e.g., "Client ID and/or Deployment ID missing in SI Cloud Settings").
Outcome
After ITS assistance (if needed), instructors can confirm Client ID and Deployment ID are present in SI Cloud Settings, enable features like grade sync, and fully use the copied course with working SI lesson links, grade passback, and student access for the new term.
