Removing a CPCC Email from a Personal Microsoft Account

Overview

The purpose of this article is to assist in changing the primary email address on a personal Microsoft account from a CPCC email address. Having a personal Microsoft account with a CPCC email as the primary email will cause issues with your Work/School Microsoft account.

Pre-requisite

You will need to have an alternative email address. If you don't have one, you will need to create one.

Instructions

  1. Open an incognito or private browser.

  2. Go to microsoft.com.

  3. Click sign in in the top right.

  4. Sign in with your CPCC email address. You may need to select personal account if asked when signing in.

  5. Click on My Microsoft Account under the profile icon.

  6. Click Your info on the left navigation menu.

  7. Scroll down to Account info.

  8. Ensure the email address listed is the CPCC email address.

  9. Click Edit account info.

  10. Click Add email.

  11. Select Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account username and enter the alternative email.

  12. Click Add username.

  13. You will need to verify the new email address. Click Verify beside the newly added email and then click Send email on the confirmation dialog. Check your email and click the link to verify the new email address.

  14. Reload the page after the email was verified.

  15. Click Make primary and then Yes on the confirmation dialog.

  16. Click Remove next to the CPCC email address.

Outcome

Your personal Microsoft account should now have the primary email address set to something other than your CPCC email address.
