Central Piedmont Cloud Desktops Guide

What is Central Piedmont Cloud?

The cloud system is a collection of virtual computers that users can connect to over the network (from on-campus and over the internet off-campus). The main purpose of the Cloud is to allow users access to computer resources they might not otherwise have access to such as specialty software or network storage. Current students, faculty, and staff have access to a General Use Desktop. Any other type of desktop is considered a specialty desktop.

Access To Cloud Desktops

The Central Piedmont Cloud desktops that students have access to depend on which courses they are registered for. For faculty, this is dependent on which department they work in. The Central Piedmont Cloud always provides access to Microsoft Office, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Google Drive, PrintAnywhere queues, and Teams.

Requests for a course to gain access to a specialty desktop should come from the instructor of the related course and such requests should include the course prefix and number (i.e., MAT-110).

Most employee access to specialty desktops is inherited via a departmental group you're added to via the HR onboarding process. In the odd case where a faculty or staff member needs access, the requests from faculty or staff will need to include an explanation of the business reason the client needs access to the specialty desktop.

Below in the section titled 'Available Cloud Desktops' is a list of available Central Piedmont Cloud desktops and the software installed.

Printing While Using the Cloud

Students, Faculty, and Staff can print from the Central Piedmont Cloud using the PrintAnywhere queues. Printing can also be done from a personal device by uploading documents to printanywhere.cpcc.edu. For more information on PrintAnywhere, please click the following link: "Printing at Central Piedmont"

Storing Electronic Files While Using the Cloud

Employees can either store files in their Employee U-drive or upload them to your Central Piedmont Google Drive. Please note that the latter method is recommended for storing large files. Students should be utilizing the Google Drive storage since e-Locker has since been retired.
