Creating "link text" in messages in Webex Teams

This article explains how to create link text, which is a hyperlink that hides the Uniform Resource Locator (URL or web address) in a message when using Webex Teams.

Why it matters: Using link text that hides the URL creates cleaner messages and does not cause inconvenience for those using screen readers. From the Central Piedmont Editorial Style Guide:  "With few exceptions, don't list out the full URL. Instead, put the link in link text."  (Notice the example of using link text.)

NOTE: Text links can only be created on the desktop app or browser version. It cannot be done using the mobile app. ITS does not recommend using the browser version.

Steps for using the desktop application of Webex Teams:

  1. Type out your message in Webex Teams.
  2. Highlight the word or phrase that will become the link text.
  3. Click on the "format text" icon.
    • Messaging options
  4. Click on the "link" icon.
    • Text formatting options
  5. Paste the URL in the link address window.
