Target Audience

This article is intended for those who have received an email from Apple that states the need to change their Apple ID.

Email from Apple indicating the need for change

Prerequisite

You will need a spare email address for this process.

If you do not wish to link your Apple ID to an existing personal email address, or your personal email address is already linked to a personal Apple ID, you can create a new email address on any platform of your choice. Some common domains are:

Changing Your Associated Email Address

  1. Visit appleid.apple.com
  2. If you are using a device that is currently signed into the Apple ID intended to be changed (i.e. work Mac, iPad, or iPhone), a pop-up should appear asking if you want to sign in with your Apple ID first.last@cpcc.edu. Continue to sign in using your passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID. Proceed to Step 5.
  • Note: If you are visiting the webpage on an Apple device that is logged into an already existing, personal, non-work account, you may be prompted to sign into that account instead. In this case, select "Use a different Apple ID" and then select "Sign In" and proceed with Step 4.

  1. If you are on a device that is not signed into the Apple ID intended for change, such as a Windows PC, Android Phone, shared computer, or other non-Apple device, you will see a standard webpage with a button to sign in.
  2. Select Sign In and enter your email address first.last@cpcc.edu
    • Note: Your password for this account may not match the password you currently use to sign into CPCC services. If you do not know your password for your Apple ID, proceed with a password reset via the link on the sign in webpage.

What Happens Now

  • Any data or information associated with your account (app purchases, iCloud services, etc) are now associated with your personal email address. You can now access your account at any time by signing into iCloud services with this email address and password.
  • You can now log out of your Apple ID on devices and sign in with your Managed Apple ID. This Apple ID is username@cpcc.edu - Where "username" is what you use to sign into CPCC services and ends with the letter 'E'.
  • Upon entering your email, you will be prompted to go to and taken to the Microsoft login page. Enter your CPCC password and follow the prompts on screen. You will then be taken back to the Settings app and within a few moments, you should be successfully signed in.

If You Do Not Comply

If you have not changed your associated email address to a personal address by June 29, 2024, the following will occur:

  • Services associated with your Apple ID like iMessage, FaceTime, and iCloud are inactive until you change your Apple ID email address.
  • Your Apple ID changes to a temporary username that includes @temporary.appleid.com. For example, First.Last@cpcc.edu changes to First.Last-cpcc.edu@temporary.appleid.com
  • To update your Apple ID after the requested time period, sign in with your temporary Apple ID username when you change your Apple ID email address.
