NC-SARA Disclosures

Background

As part of our membership in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), Central Piedmont Community College is required to determine and publicly disclose whether its academic programs leading to professional licensure or certification meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification in each U.S. state and territory. These public disclosure (indirect and direct) requirements apply to all programs, regardless of their modality (i.e., in-person, online, and hybrid programs). This means a student must be notified prior to making a financial commitment if their program or coursework at Central Piedmont is designed to lead to professional licensure or certification and is accepted as such in their state of residency.

As a college, we have made every effort to ensure that the information about educational requirements for licensure or certification is current on our website. These are called indirect student disclosures. We have completed the direct student disclosures project through Communications Management using Informer as our reporting tool. Students will receive an email encouraging them to do their due diligence including:

  1. Confirming whether a particular program meets requirements for professional licensure outside of the state of North Carolina, and
  2. Completing an attestation form indicating they understand the professional licensure requirements in his/her state of residence.

What Does This Mean For Students?

Starting March 4, 2025, students with residency outside of NC will receive a direct disclosure (email) if one or more of the following applies:

  1. Address change: The student changed their address to a state outside of NC and is in one of the impacted program codes.
  2. Program change: The student has changed their program and is in one of the impacted program codes.
  3. Registration: The student has registered for courses in one or more of the impacted program codes.
  4. New Application: The student has expressed interest in one or more of the impacted program codes as part of the application process.

What Does This Mean For Faculty/Staff?

As students receive direct disclosures, they may reach out to faculty or staff members regarding the meaning of the communication and to seek guidance on next steps.

Leaders of the student's intended academic program and/or assigned advisors or contacts for the student should check the CP/NCSARA reciprocity website for context about their state requirement(s), if any, and help the student directly with their questions about reciprocity. You are also encouraged to contact the appropriate Associate Dean or Department Chair of their intended program for additional insight into the program’s reciprocity. Additionally, as "reply” emails come in from students directly, these emails will be sent to the academic program leaders and/or assigned advisors to assist with the student inquiry.

Copies of the direct disclosures (emails) sent to students can be found in the Attachments area of this KB Article.  If there is other information that may prove useful as an employee-facing resource or should any questions about the process for indirect disclosure for students come to you or your colleagues, please reach out to our NC SARA liaison at shantell.stricklanddavis@cpcc.edu so we can continue adding to this resource.
